How do you round off a number in Microsoft excel?
You need to use the Round function. The round function has 2 parameters. Parameter 1 is the number you would like to round. Parameter 2 is the decimal place you would like to round it to.
Round(yournumber, deceimal place to round it to)
for example:
Round (1.5, 0) = 2
Round (1.555, 2) = 1.56
Round(1.5555, 3) = 1.556
Go to Format, number, and change the number of decmal places and it will do it automaticly.

I have somehow deleted the ruler-like indicators at top and side of my Microsoft Word program. They are the ones that help you change the page margins.
I have looked for how to re-enable them, however, I have had no luck.

While your in an Open Word Document.......
Go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, Then VIEW Tab.
You should be able to click on the correct boxes.
This happened to me not too long ago and I went around and around and around trying to figure how it dissapeared in the first place.
On the ''View'' menu select ''Print Layout''. That will give you the rulers on the top and sides.
For the regular ruler go to the View Menu and select ''Ruler'' for the ruler across the top.
Select th View menu and then ''Print Layout''.
That should do it for ya.

i was thinking of getting microsoft office program which has outlook, word 2002, and four other programs. does the word program come with full functionality, or is it limited to a few word capabilities. it would be the latest version for 2006, but word would come as 2002 not the full scale 2003 version. cost is $99 for the program, while word 2003 costs much higher. also, if it says i user does that mean it can only be loaded on one pc, or can it be unstalled from one pc and reloaded onto another pc, if the user is the same? if not, will a second licence be needed to do so?
Office is a much more expansive program, it depends on the level to which you need theses programs, full versions offer downloadable options and versatility.
Works Suite is fine for you if the programs are just what your looking for, it is much cheaper, but if your a teacher or student, there is a version of Office, less expensive for this purpose.
And as I was in Tech Support for Microsoft a few years back, they have started to limited the number of units a piece of software can be loaded on as long as the use is for personal use, you can get it on up to 3 computers before it will not let you get past the registration screen.
Make sure you fill in the same info, write down the numbers on the CD/DVD so you can go through the setup without having to stop and look at the numbers each time.
You can e-mail, TechWeb or call them but it is expensive both for the call and they charge for each occurance
Get OpenOffice.....it's doing all what you need, the same way as Office and it's free !
Don't waste your money....install it everywhere and with the extra money get more memory to have Windows run faster...

Hi, a few months ago I created a microsoft office live account for a free trial of it to make a website, It said it was free so I entered my mom's details (with her permission) in and created my website. It said nothing about payment it just said that it needed the details for verification. The trial ended and I recieved a letter today, asking for 拢26-拢29 for the account. I went to the help website because I thought why do I need to pay?

Since I upgraded to msn premium, I can no longer add subaccounts to the main account. I have tried unsitalling and reinstalling msn premium. Vista gets a built-in dvd burning program, you can burn DVD using that, but vista built-in programs cannot rip dvds, to rip dvds, you have to get a dvd ripper software, because dvds have copyright-protection on them and this removes the copyright protection, then you can rip them to your harddrive

To fix the page width, click on view on the toolbar, then print layout.
As far as the dotted lines go, probably a border thing. Click on insert, borders, and make sure that there aren't any borders clicked on. Otherwise, I have no idea what you did.

Sounds like your page view is set to normal. Try going to the View menu, and selecting Web Layout or Print Layout. Then select the Show/Hide icon from the standard toolbar. It looks like a backwards letter P.
Your page size is off. On one of the tools bars at the top you should see a percentage with a drop-down menu. Select the percentage that looks best for your monitor settings.

You might want to try uninstalling the .Net Framework as well. Since it's a free download I'd try that. Also, maybe you have installed .Net 2.0 and the 1.1 update might be conflicting with that. I'd turn off IIS first then try the update, if that doens't work, like i said, uninstall .Net all together and reinstall it.

For some reason, on my Microsoft Word 2003 I can't highlight lines/words/anything and delete it by pressing ''BACKSPACE'', I can only delete by pressing the ''delete'' button. However, I can delete letter by letter using the backspace.

This is a Word option setting:
1.Click on the Tools-%26gt;Options menu item.
2.Click the Edit tab.
3.Under Editing Options, check the check box next to ''Typing replaces selection''.
4.Click OK.
That should do it.
If you have a legitimate software, open a Word document and click Help, click Detect and Repair.
Have the 2003 CD handy in case you need to use it.
This only takes a minute and will restore anything you might have accidentally removed.
After that, do some exploring. Click Tools, Options, and check out each of the tabs. You may find your answer there.
i can use backspace to delete a highlighted letters in word 2003... maybe you have changed something in the preference...
This is not something you can change in the preferences or the common options. In fact, this shouldn't be happening at all. I recommend you re-install Office 2003, or use Office 2007, easier and has more options. This might be a bug or a virus on the computer, but that would not me most probable.

When you have created a document, click on ''Save As''. When the box appears, click on tools and then select ''Security options''. You can then type in a password. Give your document a name as usual and save as appropriate.
You can do the same with existing documents when you click on ''open''.

Every time I try to edit an item on my R/W CD using Microsoft Word, it won't let me. It says it's 'Read Only'. I've unchecked that box and it still does it. Apart from the tedious task of deleting the whole CD, doing my editing and putting it all back, I can't seem to get round this problem. Can any one help me? Plain english please with clear instructions as I'm still a learner on this thing.

Or Try to format your CD first (formating provision is in your CD writing software, I dont know which one you are using). After formating your Re-writable CD will work like a floppy, you can change anything it will save %26 you wont need to brun CD, simply copy from 'My Document' %26 paste on the Re-writable CD.
Key - you will not be able to save it to CD from Word.
If your burner (device) and software permit it, a CD-RW can be formatted so that, using Windows Explorer, you can paste files to the CD (it still takes longer than normal paste in WE, but I think less than erasing the disc and re-writing it). I think that may have happened in the past, so you got the impression that a CD-RW could work like the hard disc does - but it can't.

Just run the setup file once more. Microsoft Office can't run independently!
The User account can be corrupted, try restoring the account to a previous point, or re-creating your account.
Might sound stupid but you said you've saved the files but did you complete the setup process. Maybe you should uninstall it all and start again, sometimes it can help, you may have made some kind of mistake the first time by accident. Also maybe theres a problem with the CD you were given and its not been written correctly.
Make sure you have all your updates from Microsoft office. THat should solve it.

When I try to print a document for Word (by the way, it's office 2000) it comes up as an illegal operation and shuts down. I recently just deleted everything out of my computer and started over, and then installed microsoft office. i used to have the same version of office on here, and it still worked. Also other office programs are fine. The only program that doesn't cooperate is Word. If anyone has any idea's what's going on please let me know. Thanks :]
Make sure you are printing on the correct printer - go to file and print instead of just hitting the print icon. If this doesn't work or it is the correct printer uninstall and reinstall office.
Uninstall Office. Reinstall and see if it works. Sounds like a dll file was deleted when you did the purge.

I will assume you are using windows XP, although it is basically the same in '95 and '98.
However, i assume you are not using a Mac or Linux.
You should be able to right-click the icon for ''Word'', either in the ''Start'' menu, or in the ''Programs'' folder, and there should be an option that says ''Send to..''.
If you hover the mouse over the ''Send to..'' option it will give you a list of places to send it to. Click ''Desktop'' and it will make a shortcut on your desktop. The program will stay where it was, with simply the new shortcut appearing on your desktop somewhere. Presto!
Today we bought a Belkin wireless modem router, which I've set up fine and both my laptop (which runs on Vista) and PC (on XP) are fine with.

You may (but may not, this is a likely suggestion, not an assertive answer) have a spyware hostsfile problem. When people complain about not being able to access very specific sites but everything else is fine, this is often the case.

In it, except for very specific circumstances, you should have a single line under the lines that start with a # mark, the line

If you have any lines that look similar with microsoft.com and myspace.com in them, delete them (and only them), save the file and close it. Then run a spyware scan and av scan.

I am working on a very extensive project in Microsoft Word 2003. The project is a number of pages long and I am needing to do two things. One, I need to insert a page of material between two pages of material already within the project. Two, I need to number some BUT NOT ALL of the pages in the lower, right hand corner of the pages. Can anybody help me with these tasks?
For the first problem, assuming the material to be inserted doesn't exist, simply put the cursor wherever you want the material to go and start typing. If the material does already exist on the computer, you can copy-and-paste it from its current source to wherever you want with the CTRL/C (copy) and CTRL/V (paste) keyboard commands.
For the page numbers, you can create several sections in the document, turning page numbering on or off for each section as you need to. I hope you don't have many alternations between on and off, for this is a manual task.
In general, this is what you would do:
1. Put the cursor where you want a change in page numbering to occur.
2. Click on the Insert-%26gt;Break menu item.
3. Click on Next Page.
4. Click OK.
That put a section mark there, dividing your document into two sections, one before the mark and one after. Do this at every place you want the numbering to go on or off. When you're done, do the following:

My email is a paid account that i use for the extra options, I don't want to lose it. The value that yahoo has is its search engine and user base, if Microsoft buys yahoo, hopefully they are smart enough to not get users mad enough to leave.
Whether to sell yahoo is a tough decision, yahoo is still making a profit but looks like the stock value is approaching 2003 levels which is bad. The economy is also not that good so many companies are having problems. It is sad to see the yahoo employees go to work after the announcement of planned reductions, they still seem upbeat though, it will be different now that microsoft made an offer.

I have microsoft office 2003 and i want to set it so when i minimize it , it goes to the taskbar by the clock.. I had this done before but cannot remember how.
With Outlook 2003 and Windows XP the icon automatically appears in the Notification Area (used to be called the System Tray). Just right-click on the small icon and choose Hide when Minimized to eliminate Outlook from the regular taskbar.

2. Operating System CD
the software should reside on the Application %26 Driver Recovery DVD, although its most likely the trial version of the software so unless you have a full key, its not going to be useful to install it, especially if you are past the 60 days.
If you don't have a full version key or disc then use something like open office....its free and compatible with most office programs.

k, so on microsoft excel, im trying to make a graph for population of the U.S. between 1870 and 1940. and the years r supposed to go on the x axis, but i cant get them to show up. the x axis just has like the numbers 1-8, for each bar
You don't say what version of Excel you are using, so I'll assume that it is Excel 2003 or earlier.
You want to create a line (or maybe column) chart, so select your population data (but not the years). Go to Insert --%26gt; Chart and create a line (or column) chart. On the second dialog box of the Chart Wizard, click the Series tab. At the bottom is an edit box labeled ''Category (X) axis labels'' where you specify the location of the text that should be used for the X-axis labels. Click in that box and then select your years (1870 to 1940) in the spreadsheet.
If you have already created the chart, then right click on a blank area of the chart and choose Source Data. Then follow the instructions above.

Try System Restore - Start %26gt; All Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; System Tools %26gt; System Restore and put your PC back to when you definitely had Paint - the computer will restart itself and Paint should be back in Accessories for you.

You'll need a windows CD.
Go to the start menu and click on control panel. In the control panel, click Add or Remove Programs. In there, click Add/Remove WIndows Components. Double click Accesories and Utilities.
Paint should be listed there- with a normal uninstall, the box should be unchecked, but because you didn't do it normally, it might not be. If it isn't, uncheck it, and click ok. Click Next, and it should properly uninstall it. Then you can go back to the same place, and re-check the box. Click OK and Next again, and you should be golden.
If the box is already unchecked when you get there, just re-check it and you should be fine.

Are you sure you didn't delete the shortcut? Try opening your Start Menu, then click on Search. If you have Windows XP or higher, click on All Files and Folders, and type in mspaint, and look in the My Computer folder. If you see an icon with paint brushes on it, titled mspaint, you didn't delete the actual Paint file.

I have some documents I sent to a printer at work from Microsoft Outlook. After I sent them, I realized the printer was down and wasn't printing anything. I now realize these are compromising documents and when the printer finally prints, these documents cannot be printed because I will not be there to snag them from the printer quickly! Help! What do I do on Outlook to delete items from a printer queue?!?!?!
Do this from your Desktop, not Outlook.
From start menu, select Control Panel.
Dbl click ''Printers and Faxes''. dbl click on printer you sent it to.
Delete the documents in the queue.
If the docs are not in the queue then they have already printed, or they never got sent.
To be extra safe: Walk to the printer and physically press the Cancel Job button.
Unplug the printer from the wall for 30 seconds or so. If that doesn't work by itself, combine with a reboot.
Double click the printer icon and delete the jobs. Also restart the printer service.

In the Microsoft Office Folder there's an Additional Tools folder. Use the Remove Office utility to remove the test drive.

Microsoft Word can not be used as an email program. It is a word processor that allows you to type letters and such. You can not send or receive email using it. It just doesn't work that way.
If they are saying they're using Microsoft Word for their scheduling documents, you can easily purchase a copy of Microsoft from various outlets online or via almost any retail outlet such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, etc. OR, if they email it to you, generally speaking, you can open the document using WordPad.

why don't you try MS Publisher. That's where flashcards and banners and things like that have templates. but if you really want to work on with MS Word, you have to do it manually by configuring the page setup.

You have TYPEOVER turned on - it's like NUMLOCK or CAPLOCK. You turn it on and off using the Insert key on the keyboard.
Press the Insert key once.

for some reason my new computer (which is windows XP) doesn't have Micorosoft word on it. It has other programs but there not as modern. Is there a way I can download Microsoft Word to my computer from the internet and not by a CD?

BTW, not all computers come with MS Word. You have to purchase it seperately. IF YOU did buy it, but it wasn't installed, call the company that you ordered the computer from and ask them where it is, and to supply you with the discs.

There are quite a few key finders out there that are free. I have used one or two in the past to retrieve keys for XP Home.
Some work with different versions of office and some don't. Best thing to do is search for something along the lines of

I am trying to do a math project using Microsoft Excel. I am trying to make an X and Y chart. I am putting a list of numbers in X and am trying to write an equation in Y. For example: X+9. I know that in place of X you can type in the cell number of X and you can drag the box down and Excel will put X in for the value and solve the equation. But everytime I try to type in the cell number inplace of X it does nothing. What am I doing wrong?
in Excel you need to specify the fact that you are using a formula by starting it with '='.
Say you have the value '1' in cell A2 and in B2 you want to calculate the value of A2 + 9
Click cell B2 and type (without the quotes): '=A2+9' and then press enter - it should then display '10' in B2.
Alternatively, after typing '=' you can click the cell to automatically put 'A2' in the formula.
This is not totally clear to me, it may be me.
Are you typing in the formula correctly?

If you want this formula down the col by copying,
row 1 will change with relative addressing.

to create a formula in excel, you have to start with a + sign.
So in your instance you would type in:
+a3+9
of course you would replace the a3 with whatever cells your were using for x

Just as an experiment with your x + 9, in cell A1 I entered the following: =B1+9. Then in cell B1, I entered the number 2 and the result was 11 which appeared in cell A1. The only thing you may not have done was enter your equal sign before your formula.

EVERYTHING! In fact i loaded home and student onto my computer today and the file button is a round circle at the top left. The menu's are all different their tabs not drob down menu's which means u have to search for everything, i've been using the help button!
Microsoft works is built into microsoft word and thats better. I think powerpoint is more fun, and everything is blue!

standard is the cheapest and the best one would be microsoft office proffesional.
The home and student has powerpoint, outlook, word, and things like that.
The bost basic one that I reccomend that is really good is the proffesional one.
The business one is self explanitory. it's for business's.
go with basic if you just need exel, PP, word(of course!!), and outlook. it is a worth while investment.
I have recently enabled Microsoft fax console on my PC, and now my computer turns on whenever the phone rings. How do I disable this so the computer does not turn on when phone rings? (I will only be using fax on rare occasions)
Make sure the FAX software is not in your ''startup'' folder. As long as it is not running in the background the phone won't interrupt you. Since you only need fax on rare occasions, you can then go in and start it up when you need it.

I put a picture as a background in my document on microsoft word(format-%26gt;background-%26gt;fill effect-%26gt; picture-%26gt;select picture) but when i print it only the text is printed,why is that please help.
Along the top, you see a printer icon, then a paper with a magnifying glass over it; this is the ''print preview'' command. You press on this to see what will come out of the printer if you send it to the printer.
On the printer ''advance'' sub-menu, you may have to make adjustments to make the background show up, if it shows up when you hit ''print preview.'' If it doesn't show up on ''print preview,'' then you need to make more adjustments on MS Word. Try hitting F1 help key, then type your question.
If you have the text highlighted this could be causing it or if the background is color and your text is black then your color may be out and its just not printing. Can you see anything?
I'm using Microsoft works to make a resume. I noticed that my friend had the objective, education, all the sub titles on the side highlighted, and indented far to the left of the page, and it printed that way. I thought that it looked nice and was wondering if anyone knows how to do that on works?
i think you have to put in a table. but i think u can select a template and cut and paste it in there.
I would prefer to use Microsoft office publisher 2007 as it is easy to follow.
*Open up the application and on the left there is a list of publication types.
*Click on resumes and it will show you differnet types of templates
*Double click your selected template and it has a format of a resume just fill it in.

For some odd reason, just starting today...at school, my account and teachers account, when you get on microsoft word you start typing and entering for space you get the paragraph button. And when you space you get a period like dot in the middle that indicates you've spaced.
HOW DO YOU GET RID OF THIS??????
Those paragraph marks are your friends. They show exactly where each paragraph ends. Since all paragraph formatting (tabs, indents, margins, line spacing, before and after paragraph spacing, ...) is attached to them, accidentally deleting one can cause mysterious reformatting. I've found it's nice to know where they are.
Now, the other characters that may also appear aren't as useful and can be safely turned off. Here's how (with Word XP (2002) and the adjacent versions):
1.Click the Tools-%26gt;Options menu item.
2.Click the View tab.
3.Under Formatting Marks, select ONLY Paragraph Marks and deselect all others.
4.Click OK.
That's it.
Look on the toolbar - there's a paragraph symbol - click on it to turn the paragraph marks in the document on and off.

Horse Listener, in Word's toolbar, there's a symbol that looks something like a backwards capital P, only with two uprights and the loop of the P filled in. This is the icon for showing codes. If you click on it, the spaces and enters will no longer show.

After they copy it to their computers? No. The only way to ''protect'' web content is that it's copyrighted.
Convert it to a PDF file using a free pdf utility, then post the pdf on the internet. The utility works just like a printer. For example, with your Word doc open you would go to File / Print Ctrl and select the pdf printer. Save it to your desktop or other folder of your choice. Here's the link to the utility. With ''Word'' running, go into ''Tools'', then ''Options'', then ''Spelling %26 Grammer''. Check all the approriate boxes to ensure then are checked, or unchecked.

Try a repair install of Microsoft Word. If that fails, try upgrading to Open Office.
Do as leeb001 says before you panic.
If you need more help be a lot more specific.
Go into Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar and untick Ignore Uppercase and letters with numbers in because you can still make mistakes when typing in caps. Then make sure the option, check speling as you type is ticked. It could be as simple as this.
Really, you need to give us more information. What doesn't work - do you click on the spell check and it gives you an error? Is the spell check just not doing anything when you click on it? Have you tried the Repair option from the Help menu in Word? When you say Microsoft XP do you mean Windows XP with a version of Office (which version) or a version of Windows with Office XP?
Also, whilst Open Office is a perfectly good product in its own right, it is by no means an Upgrade. I have been running and supporting Open Office since early 2002, but it is not advanced enough and is really turning into 'bloatware' being quite sluggish.

I think you're talking about changing the orientation from portrait to landscape. Go to 'page setup', then to 'page layout.' That's where you can change from vertical (portrait) to horizontal (landscape).
Click on Insert on the tool bar and choose Text Box
Use the cursor to draw the text box to the needed size
Type in the text you want (adjusting the box if needed to make everything fit.
Click on the text box
Click on Format on the menu
Select text direction.
