Microsoft Office 2007 Question?

Why did Microsoft suggest to change the default file extensions for documents such as word and Excel from .doc to .docx? Whose idea was this. I would like to say in the next version to change it back! How are you dealing with this?

.docx etc are MS Office 2007 documents. It's because they're not backwards compatible with earlier versions unless you download a free compatibility pack.

To save it as an MS 2003 or earlier document (.doc), simply use the drop down menu when you go to Save As to select .doc as the file type.
